Recently, construction began on the New Energy Vehicle Electric Drive System Headquarters Base project, which has been introduced to our city. Through the construction of a ‘factory of the future’, this project aims to establish an industrial cluster centred on the new energy vehicle sector, encompassing autonomous driving, automotive-grade semiconductors and upstream supporting industries for electric drive systems.

At the construction site for the first phase of the project, our reporter observed that pile driving and ground hardening works were proceeding simultaneously, with numerous transport vehicles shuttling back and forth. It is understood that the first phase primarily involves the construction of 10 buildings, including production halls, laboratories, staff accommodation and office blocks. Construction on the project officially commenced in March this year.

Project manager Jiang Shengyi explained: “We will prioritise the construction of the Phase One production facilities and the national-level laboratories, aiming to have them operational by the end of this year so that they can contribute to production capacity as soon as possible.”

The project is being invested in and developed by Zhejiang Oswell Electric Technology Co., Ltd., based in Hangzhou. With a total investment of 5.5 billion yuan, it will be constructed in two phases on a total site area of 352 mu, of which Phase One occupies 115 mu.

“The relevant services provided by the Zhuji government are quite similar to those in Hangzhou. The entire service system, including the ‘One-Stop Service’ initiative and a range of other measures, demonstrates a strong service ethos, making us feel right at home,” company director Cao Guanhui told reporters, adding that the decision to locate the project in Zhuji was driven by the city’s automotive industry support network and high-quality business environment.

Once operational, the project will produce a range of products, including drive and control systems, three-in-one powertrain assemblies (combining motors, electronic controls and gearboxes), and multi-in-one system assemblies. Not only will their performance match that of industry leaders, but they will also offer significant price advantages.

“The entire company will relocate to Zhuji, and the listed entity will also be transferred to Zhuji, where it will be listed locally,” said Cao Guanhui. He added that the construction of the first and second-phase factories is entirely based on the ‘Future Factory’ concept, replicating the full set of proven best practices here. The Zhuji project offers considerable scope for expansion and development regarding the company’s future listing and business growth.

It is understood that the construction of a ‘Future Factory’ primarily encompasses seven key elements: digital twin applications, intelligent production, smart management, collaborative manufacturing, green manufacturing, safety and control management, and socio-economic benefits. Put simply, a Future Factory is a benchmark enterprise in smart manufacturing that fully integrates next-generation information technology with advanced manufacturing.

This year, the Economic Development Zone has been thoroughly implementing the ‘No. 1 Development Project’ for innovation and quality enhancement in the digital economy. Using the ‘Year of Project Advancement’ as a focal point, it has continuously optimised service mechanisms covering the entire enterprise lifecycle, providing proactive, front-line and cluster-based services to facilitate the early commencement and rapid construction of a number of major industrial projects. It is reported that a number of major projects are set to commence construction or be completed and put into operation in the near future.
